Kenjutsu users vs Samurai Class

Post by Lady Blue on Sat Jul 11, 2015 7:49 am

Disclaimer
If the questions asked on this topic or the suggestion made here seem stupid I apologize but I have to ask.

The Issue
Hello I just wanted to raise a few questions on the Kenjutsu users vs Samurai Classes. I was told that Iado was exclusive for Samurai Classes in addition that speed moving could be parts of the techniquem while Kenjutsu users needed body flicker or sorts to move closer to their targets. I was also told Kenjutsu techniques were limited to somewhat very close range techniques. With that in mind,

Samurai: Are the only Characters that can use Samurai Techniques.
Perk(s):

Increases Speed Nindo by 1 Mastery Level (IE: Practitioner ---> Expert)
Receive 10% discount on equipment

Suggestion
I would like to suggest the Chakra control for Samurai class to be less taxing if not free. Either paying minimal amount of Jutsu(Chakra) regardless of Jutsu Rank or paying only every second post(or half the amount). I feel the 10% discount is only an okay-ish perk.

Kenjutsu Specialist: Are the only Characters that can use Kenjutsu Techniques, Register Custom Swords, and wield special Swords like Samehada or Kiba.
Perk(s):
Increases Agility Nindo by 1 Mastery Level (IE: Practitioner ---> Expert)
Start with 300 Ryu for a sword/sword esque weapon
Word Quests for 7 Legendary Swordsmen Swords -1,000 word discount

Question
Also I would like some clear clarification on the difference between Kenjutsu Techniques and Samurai Techniques. I know I was given a few examples and I stated them above but what stops Kenjutsu users just making Samurai Techniques?

Question
What weapons are Samurai and Kenjutsu user's limited to? As there is another class called weapons users. Assumptions. I am assuming Kenjutsu users will only be limited to sword type weapons Sasuke? and weapons users any other weapon other than sword types? Hammers, sickle and chain etc? Tenten?

There will be no jutsu cost reduction on any of the classes. I'm guessing you haven't been watching Naruto much either.

Samurai - Katana
Kenjutsu - Swords other than Katana, Wakizashi, Nodachi. (Ninja are seen using Tanto so that isn't included.)
Weapon User - Weapons other than Sword's and Katana.

Illusionist get no perk what-so-ever, at most we would just increase the discount on techniques based on samurai.

The main benefit of Samurai is that you basically are the only one who gets the canon one's, which honestly there aren't that many, but you also get to make a shitload of custom samurai techniques.

Also, you're not really supposed to just have Samurai by itself, like a lot of you are trying to do. You are given the opportunity to have 3 classes for a reason.  So "What stops Ken users." The lack of the perk does. But if a Ken user has both Ken and Samurai they can make Samurai Techniques AND Ken techniques.

You can mix Samurai with Ken or Samurai with Weapon users because Samurai have used weapons that aren't just Katana, such as the Kanabo etc.

Anyway, Samurai in ITSELF is already given perks based on exactly what it is.

"Little is known about the abilities of the samurai even by shinobi, but they are primarily sword-users. It was shown that they are capable of utilising chakra, apparently by channelling it through their swords. This allows them to extend the reach of their swords as well as attack at a distance by swinging them and releasing crescents of energy at their targets. The samurai have also shown form manipulation, as the chakra blades they form into many types, such as buzz-saws, broad swords, and axes.[3] One of the forms of kenjutsu they use is Iaidō (居合道) which, due to the extremely quick drawing and re-sheathing of the katana, makes ninjutsu near useless, as the process of performing hand seals is overwhelmed by the speed and execution of this form of swordsmanship.[4] As Ōnoki had stated that anyone daring to challenge the Land of Iron's military power would be considered foolish, this supports the formidable force of the samurai."

Breaking this down,

you can not only extend the reach of your blade at will you're also able to use projectile based maneuvers.

you basically have the ability to use samurai sabre technique which literally lets you do what one of the Seven Swordsman swords does, which is manipulate the form of the chakra into other objects. That in itself gives you a large amount of abilities in itself.

you get iaido which basically allows you to move fast enough to stop people from spamming handsign's against you once you're good enough.

I don't get why everyone thinks Samurai are hindered. They aren't they come with innate benefits that Kenjutsu users don't get. You don't see a random person with a sword doing any of this without either a special sword or having an actual jutsu accompanying it.

Samurai just use the one jutsu and accomplish all of this, minus the Iaido techniques.

Re: Kenjutsu users vs Samurai Class

Good morning, I agree with what my colleague said above, I'm as far as I know im the primary samurai on the site. I'd love to see more.

I think you brought up some good concerns about differences. I can assure you, if we see a kenjutsu user who has a very fast forward slash that it will be denied. The idea is that samurai techniques are supposed to be effective against shinobi. I think you will begin to see samurai have other talents. They for instance have excellent armor that can stand up to Amaterasu for a while. One of the things only samurai will get. Or masks that stop poisons etc etc. While you have to buy these things, that is why they have a discount. I might be open to samurai starting with more weapon slots than others. I'll ask staff what they think.

I'd give them four weapon slots because they typically have four weapons in canon, or at least that is stated.

I'm content with the current Samurai advantages, but I'd be happy to see the boost enhanced a slight bit to 15%. 10 is a little low and 20 is a bit too high. I feel as though 15 would be right on the dot, personally. Plus, it'd aid those looking  to play a "true" or complete samurai build. Also, I appreciate the clarification as well, seeing as I'll be a Samurai very soon.
